Unfortunately, as common as it is, arrest, jail, court, and imprisonment carry a social stigma. Many people are frightened to learn that a potential spouse did jail time. Should you reveal your past to someone you plan to marry? If so, when? If you found out someone that asked to marry you had been convicted for a violent crime, is that a deal breaker for you? Are you willing to overlook a man's violent past if he has served his time? What about a violent woman? Should a previous record of violent behavior be a red flag? What about if your loved has received counseling? Is that enough of an assurance of normal behavior in the future?
