In the distant past and in some cultures today families of royal lineage were prepared for the task of governing th nation they were to inherit. In a democratic society, leadership is chosen by way of election, but who is preparing their child to assume leadership? Certain families have gained political power and maintained it for generations, while other families pass down poverty, illiteracy, and dependency on government welfare. What's the difference? Unlike India's old class system, American leaders can come from any walk of life, even from struggling single mothers, as our current U.S. President often points out. So what is it we need to do to prepare our children to rise to roles of leadership in their sociert? Or are some families destined to remain forever within America's impoverished underclass
