Can unarmed older men face armed young men and change their hearts with only the power of fatherly love? Coaches and Leaders in Action believe they can. It takes the courage of a man to face directionless, dangerous, destructive young men who have been conditioned to respond with violence. Even as they held football practice, stated Coach Ernest Radcliff, shots rang out from gang wars and players were forced to hit the ground for cover against bullets whizzing by. How do we stop the violence? How do we help those steeped in retaliatory shootings to forgive, reconcile, and end gang feuds that keep resulting in the loss of young life? A peace march is scheduled for this weekend in Chicago, but many are gearing up for what will be an intense face to face meeting with those who are disturbing the peace and those who are determined to restore order.
