When Do Boys Learn To Be Violent Against Women?

"Gender-based violence" it's been called. Basically it means beating up women. Misusing women. Oppressing women. It's a global problem and every race of people has been guilty of it. As the world expresses outrage at yet another kidnapping of girls in Nigeria by the group Boko Haram, group members brag that they have "converted" the girls to Islam. There is nothing Divine or God inspired about misusing females, yet every religion has teachings that have been misconstrued to condone it. Why is this such a crisis among human beings? Women raise sons, why are they not able to raise their boys to treat women with dignity and respect? What kind of men are they choosing to father their sons, are they choosing men who set a bad example? Bad behavior is not genetic, it is learned in ones own culture and society. When do boys learn to be violent against women? How do we break the cycle and change this culture of contempt for women?
