Young Black Male Voices of Leadership Use the Arts To Beat Racism

The stereotypical image sent around the world of the menacing young black "thug" has had too many dangerous repercussions to innocent young men shot down in the prime of their lives by supposedly fearful whites. Even those young black men killed by other black men are often looked at as just another victim of "gang violence.'  There is a rising voice of young leadership emerging from the arts community to combat the negative media images of the black male thug that have gone global. Lloyd DeJohnette, Chicago activist, spoken word artist and youth organizer, discusses his upcoming award and the emergence of new young voices for social change coming out of the urban communities across America.
