A vacant lot is full of weeds. We can see it as an eyesore or recognize it as a science class, where every weed is studied and discovered for its medicinal, nutritional or healing qualities. A dilapidated building can be an eyesore or a class in brick masonry and carpentry. A torn garment is a badge of poverty or a sewing class. A broken down car is a transportation difficulty or an auto shop class. Education and employment is right where we live. Do we have the collective will to create it? We can teach our youth the skills that address their real needs. There are those who have a plan and are working that plan. It's our job to join them, or at least encourage the effort. Where do you stand?
