What we become in life is a combination of many experiences, most of them rooted in what happened in our  homes as we were growing up. Our parents lived in a different time and had different perceptions about the world, so much of their focus was on getting us to conform to rules in order to avoid punishment. The world has changed, and our parenting styles may not be as fear based as those of the parents who raised us. We may have been more lenient, we may have been more demanding, we may have been more self centered than our parents were in raising us. Once we become parents, we choose to either imitate the parenting styles of those who raised us, or we choose to do something totally different, based on whether or not we believe the actions of our parents were helpful or hurtful in our personal growth and development. What have you chosen to do differently in the raising of your children and why? When you children reached adulthood, did you get the results you hoped for? If you could do some things over, what would you change about how you raised your children? What advice would you give to today's young mothers and fathers?
