Many religious teachings promote a philosophy of male superiority and female insignificance in world affairs. Western concepts of Christianity personalize God as a man who metes out punishment to the disobedient and dismiss Eastern concepts of God as a force or power rather than a being as more or less paganistic and primitive. Fear based teachings that demand faith without question often prevent challenges to concepts that are racist, sexist, or designed to perpetuate bigotry against an economic underclass. Author Dr. Grace Ji Sun Kim, a visiting Researcher at Gorgetown University, discusses how to develop mutual respect for cultural differences among religious groups, how to address and overcome sexism in religion, and how spiritual women can influence world peace.
