When the big broadcast companies were formed such as ABC, CBS, NBC, and their counterparts in other countries, these were major corporate entities who literally controlled the thought of an entire population. Only the wealthiest companies could afford to advertise on television, in fact, it was these corporate giants who financed the broadcast industry. The general population was unaware that most of what they saw and heard on television was designed to keep them spending money with the advertisers and to vote for politicians who supported laws that further enriched the advertisers. Now, with free Internet TV, that cycle of corporate control of the public thought is broken. With the common everyday person now empowered to reach a global audience, how do you think the television messages we see and hear will change? Will the real freedom of speech create a global political and economic revolution?
