Lauren Cooper is an artist , farmer and  community herbalist living in the Appalachian mountains of Southwest Virginia. With her family she has owned and operated Greenstar Farm and Apothecary in Blacksburg, Va since 1991.

As an herbalist she grows , forages, stocks and markets locally a large apothecary of medicinal plant preparations with the help of apprentices, and runs a small free and barter clinic. Inspiration from her herbal practice informs her work as an artist. Lauren is  the author and illustrator of : Greenstar Folk Herbal- Do It Yourself Plant Medicines For The People , published  in 2019
