Join WORDS-MAKE-PEOPLE this Sunday from 1-3 p.m. EST for a dynamic interview with the "mothers of our community" -- the International League of Muslim Women (ILMW) featuring their president, our Sister Brenda Sharif of Memphis, TN and other local ILMW presidents.

The ILMW was started in Detroit, MI in 1980 and spread to several major cities across America to countries in Africa such as Ghana, Senegal and Togo. Their founding members include the following Sisters: Sahirah Muhammad, Nikki Shakoor, Cheryl El-Amin, Georgia Wahid, Dr. Viola Vaughn, Shareefah Hud, and Tahira Khalid.

Their Mission states: TILMW, Inc. is a women’s organization, maintained and based on Islamic tenets that will utilize the collective resources of its members to serve the needs of Muslims and non-Muslims alike, in the local communities. These services will enable individuals and/or families to see opportunities instead of obstacles, resulting in enrichment of the world.

In 2005 Imam W. Deen Mohammed said, "Over recent years, the past 10 years at least, I see that love growing again. And the International League of Muslim Women is really a great haven of love for one another. That, we feel. And you are helping us grow that love back. You are helping the community grow that love back that we lost. We are getting it back."
