The Qur'an says "Save yourself and save your family". Originally Savior Day (spelled in British format, "Saviour's Day") was created to introduce us to a first level "savior" in the person of Mr. Wallace D. Fard. 

Fard's efforts were a saving of us as a people from the vestige of slavery as we endured the days of Jim Crow. Fard raised a man,Elijah Poole, to the status of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

The Hon. Elijah Muhammad saved us from economic dependency, fear of all other people (with special emphasis on no longer fearing Caucasians). He did this while raising his special son, Imam W. Deen Mohammed, to succeed him in leadership so that his son would bring the community back to the pure worship of Allah, the Lord of all the systems of knowledge.

Imam W.D. Mohammed saved his community by guiding them to the Qur'an and the life example of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). Imam Mohammed said, Savior Day is saying "Save Yours" Day. 

Allah has obligated EVERY Believer with the obligation of working to save society, humanity. The Qur'an states: "O ye who believe! save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is Men and Stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who flinch not (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do (precisely) what they are commanded."
