The masjid (mosque) is a sacred space and place reserved namely for Islam’s worshipers. A place where the Holy Qur’an reigns supreme and the excellence of life as demonstrated by Prophet Muhammed (prayers and peace be upon him) is emulated.

The doors of our Islamic houses of worship are open to all people from diverse backgrounds made up of visitors who come to observe as part of their school project or to just listen to what the Muslims have to say.

The decorum and practices of the masjid may not be the norm as in other houses of worship in America. The males and females typically sit on the floor separated by gender. We even remove our shoes which also may be new to some of our visitors.

How welcoming can a masjid be in a society that is diverse as America; a diversity that seems to be changing daily to the point of many state legislatures must create new laws around the roles of gender and sexual definitions.

The laws of Islam are clear and well established; therefore, certain practices are non-negotiable within the masjid.
