Politics and Religion~
My parents taught me that when in a social situation there are two subjects that are forbidden, politics and religion. The reason is that there is no one that doesn't have a heart felt opinion about either one or the other, and you will almost always alienate someone no matter what you say about either. It used be be that you could escape this conundrum by sticking to sports or music, but even these two modes of entertainment are no longer innocuous as they once were. That is because there are now political and PC overtones in both of those subjects that make it nearly impossible to express an opinion about either without causing another person to take umbrage at your position. An example in sports of members of football and baseball teams taking a knee during the National Anthem, or pop musicians making either positive or negative public statements about how the President is running the country. It used to be that sports was an escape from the harsh reality of the world, now it is just another avenue toward that harshness.
We see this also in the world of religion. Instead of the unity of which Jesus spoke in John 17, we see strident opinion about how a person should be 'saved', and if you don't agree you are going to hell. Religion is even more divisive than sports because of the parochial mind set that "my religion is better than your religion!"
When Jesus was here on earth He had to deal with both politics and religion, because then as now both of these imposters are linked together by one overarching identity-they are both 'man-made'. All Truth, in all its forms, comes directly from God. Truth is singular and absolute, and is not subject to the whim of opinion. Fact = Truth, Emotion = opinion. Mankind did not create truth, we can only discover what already exists. Unity with God comes through the words of Jesus which is Truth.
