Hello everyone, I am Leonna Abraham Brandao, Host for Blog Talk Radio/ Shedding Light. I have spoken on many occasion, about withholding and destruction of mail by prison officials, guards, tampering of evidence by law enforcement and prosecutorial misconduct, resulting in very harsh sentences for many prisoners, wrongful convictions, retaliatory sentencing, racism and corruption within the government. With all injustice combined, this country is the one country in the world known for Mass Incarcerations and unrealistic sentencings. Today I want to welcome our Guest, Founder of The National Incarceration Association.

Kate Boccia, etched her mark into Georgia politics, public service and philanthropy as nothing more than the most diligent of moms who will knock on any door and never settle for an easy answer to complicated questions. As brainchild of the NIA, president and chief executive officer, Kate opened many doors for ordinary families who became accustomed to being silenced by status-quo power and outdated public policy. Her diligence partnered together families, other advocates, agency heads and policy makers who understand the opportune time for essential change is upon us now. Kate’s personal mass incarceration journey as a parent began when her son Daniel, was sentenced on a mandatory minimum in the state of Georgia. As is too often the ignored case, Daniel was a heroin addict, shackled by desperate behavioral tendencies. After many tears and sleepless nights, Kate adjusted to her family’s new normal and launched herself into an untamed public spotlight. Ignoring stigmas and shame.
