Homes for Black Children is a nationally recognized organization created in 1969 to overturn the myth that Black families do not adopt - and to give African American children adoption opportunities that others said were not available.

In its first year of operation, HBC placed more Black children in adoptive homes than the other 13 Detroit-area adoption agencies combined!

The HBC staff soon realized that inorder to have successful adoptions and successful families, they needed to offer additional services in strengthening and preserving Black families through foster care, assistance for expectant parents, and family counseling.

The key to HBC's success is, according to both clients and colleagues, is the warm and personal approach that the staff takes to the people they serve.
