Communication is indirectly cited as the most needed skill in relationship development and the key skill missing when evaluating marital discourse and failure. Everything flows from the art of communication even when delivered via different processes. Most obvious is the art of oral communication which is affected by the lens we use when we interface with the natural world. Emotions of envy, jealousy, strife, fear, doubt, unbelief, anger, wrath, and malice lead to communication when delivered that may divide and conquer and prevent the power of alignment and the pursuit of oneness. Positive communcation fueled by the Fruit of the Spirit creates an environment for hearts to join together as one in the love God ordainedf from the beginning. The spoken word can encourage, edify, and give hope for oneness or the spoken word can be used to tear down, offend, and destroy any chance at oneness. In the first nine chapters of Genesis we read about the power of the spoken word and God's response to the power of the word when it is used inappropriately. At one point the entire world spoke one language and when combined with a spirit of evil and wickedness man was able to accomplish whatever he desired and nothing could stop him as goals were aligned and pursued. The Tower of Babel while not a love story or one we may norally associate with marriage; it provides an excellent example of the power of oneness even when it is simply language itself. We can see this further illustrated in the success of the United States and the language of one. In marriage we learn that success is only possible when couples submit to the leadership of the Holy Spirit and follow God's plan for oneness in marriage. As we explore communication in marriage we discover a fascinating reality - we must believe and speak success for our marriage, for our children and specifically for our spouse. As we listen and speak with love, we receive the greatest gift God ordained; his love through our spouse.
