Isaiah 34:16

Seek = Search.

the book of the LORD. This proves there was a book in existence, which could be searched. See App-47fail = be missing. Hebrew. 'adar. Not the same word as in Isa_19:5 (see note there). Occurs here in "former" portion, and Isa_40:26 in "latter"portion. See App-79. Isaiah 35 is the sequel to this long series of Burdens (Isa_13:1 Isa_35:10) and Woes; it sets forth the future return of Israel.

Isaiah 34:1-17

The Day of Jehovah

  1. Addressed to the world: Jews and Gentiles involved (Isa_34:1) 2. The shaking of the earth and the heavens (Isa_34:2-8) 3. The day of vengeance (Isa_34:9-17)This is one of the darkest chapters in the Bible. A worldwide judgment is described such as has never taken place in the history of the world. The indignation of the Lord is then upon all nations and upon their armies. Like chapter 33, it tells of the great judgments to come.

book of the Lord — the volume in which the various prophecies and other parts of Scripture began henceforward to be collected together (Isa_30:8; Dan_9:2).
Seek — (so Isa_8:16, Isa_8:20; Joh_5:39; Joh_7:52).
no one ... fail — of these prophecies (Mat_5:18).
none shall want ... mate — image from pairi
