TWO AGAINST TWO + hospice
Two daughters, Rose and Jennifer Simpson struggled to save their Mom, Jo Ann Simpson from being another hospice victim. Jo Ann was only 66 when her speech therapist got a referral from a doctor to enroll her into hospice even though she said NO but felt pressured. She was diagnosed with ALS in November 2020 and was eventually going to pass but she was living her life and had been clear that she was not ready to end her life and people can live with ALS 2 to 5 years.
February 2020, Jo Ann fell and broke her hip putting her in the hospital and was targeted as a prime hospice target, and why not? She had COPD and been to the hospital before and now back in the hospital and costing money so she met hospice criteria and when diagnosed with ALS, the die was cast. Obviously after her hip surgery she was in pain, but morphine is not the only pain medication and is stronger than 5 others drugs they could have given her. Her file noted allergic to morphine but despite her repeated comments about not wanting morphine she was ignored. Jo Ann was only 5’2” and 100 pounds but that didn’t stop hospice from giving her a one size fits all drug de jour!
Jo Ann kept a “journal” that is very telling about what she wanted and didn’t want and that she was suspicious of what was being done to her. It was her way of communication once she was put on a ventilator. This journal shows a woman who was attempting to understand why she was groggy, sleeping all the time, stomach cramps, constipation, all the side effects from the drugs she was being given without knowledge or consent.
Jo Ann never stood a chance and could not protect herself from their assaults on her based on lies and omissions. She died on July 13, 2021.
