October 12, 2022, Wednesday, Our guest, Deborah Williams will share two tragic stories about her in laws Shirley Williams, age 80 was living in assisted living under hospice care and after a few months was taken to a respite facility for what hospice said was a tune up and reset and then would go back to the facility. The family was told she became agitated and combative so they had to calm her down. Less than 15 hours later she was dead.
Dale Stewart, age 88 was independently living at an assisted living, and fell one evening and decided to have dinner in his room. He fixed himself a cup of coffee in his kitchen and spilt some on him and wanted a shower. He was told there was no one to give him a shower but they could take him to a respite facility for a shower. His son was not allowed to come help him shower due to covid restrictions. Against the family wishes, he was talked into going for a shower and never came back. It would ultimately cost him his life. They said it was a misunderstanding about medications even though he was given morphine and Ativan which were not approved.
Come listen to the details yourself and see if you think they both were just unfortunate accidents. Our loved ones are not going to a doctor and saying I want to die, please euthanize me or give me medical assisted death but they are being euthanized under hospice care. Everyone has a right to write their last chapter.
