How did Jesus's most fundamental of teachings get so messed up?

Why is is that an inclusive Jesus for the rest of us who included all seekers of God (Spirit/Universe), ended up being Jesus for some of us?

If you aren't a Christian you don't go to Heaven?

If you don't this, that and the other, you are in very deep poopy and you will not know eternal bliss with God?
