Not many actors could survive the dramatic career ups and downs that Katharine Hepburn did.
She was fired from half of her first paid efforts on stage for inability to act.
Her first movie, “A Bill of Divorcement” in 1932, was a hit and the next year she won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in “Morning Glory.”
But she refused to attend the Academy Awards, wouldn’t sign autographs, was critical of the studios, and prickly with the press, earning her the title Katharine of Arrogance (after playing Catherine of Aragon).
