WHAT YOU CAN DO to PROTECT YOURSELF!    
    Obviously, you first need a Business Plan – but not just ANY business plan. You want one that is specifically 
    written for an auditor. One that has answers all 17 “probing”    questions -- all built into the wording of your Plan.  One that has a financial section that will convince an auditor that you are "running your business like a business.” 

17 PROBING QUESTIONS  1.  When did the taxpayer first include (Schedule C, F. 1120S, 1065, etc.) for tax purposes? 2.  What General Industry, what Specialized Niche?  3.  Where is business conducted?  4. What geographical area?  5.  Specific demographic target population?  6.  Is the business seasonal on ongoing? 7.  Did the taxpayer have a Business Plan?   8.  Was the Business Plan Followed?  9.  How did the taxpayer propose to compete with similar businesses? 10. When/how did the idea for the business activity originate? 11. Was a Business Plan in Writing? 12. What were the financial requirements to start the business? 13. How were the funds obtained?  14. Bank loans, investors, personal savings, family, etc.?  15. What documentation is available? 16. How is the business currently being financed? 17. What financial risks are involved in this type of business?
