From Dallas, Texas, Cavin Yarbough and Alisa Peoples started singing Gospel in their respective churches. The two met while taking piano lessons as young children. Alisa, known to her friends as Lois, performed with the Texas Northeast Gospel Chorale Ensemble, as well as her family group, "The Peoples Singers." Cavin, toured as a background singer for Leon Russell, where he eventually met Charlie Wilson of The Gap Band. Soon, Charlie Wilson introduced Cavin and Alisa to Lonnie Simmons, who immediately signed the duo to Total Experience Records. The union between the two produced five albums and ten hit singles, among them: "Guilty," "I Wouldn’t Lie To You," "Don’t Waste Your Time" and the 1981 smash hit single "Don’t Stop The Music," which remained #1 on the Billboard chart for six weeks. "Don’t Stop The Music" was nominated for a Grammy Award and continued on to win numerous awards.
