A LODGE: DEPARTURE GATEWAY AND SANCTUARY

We live in a nation in transition. From a resource based economy today we are knowledge based. In spite of short sighted politics a nation has grown and flourished. The appeal of Canada is often touted to anyone who cares about comparisions. Not for a moment should we think masonry is immune to social trends. Population trends have been calculated and largely ignored for over 50 years. Statistical analysis has grown into the sophisticated potential of algorythms that present us with news, political views and marketing.  We have awakened from a slumber, wrongly thinking yesterday was slow and even paced unlike the rapidity and chaos of today.  Today has always been what it is; new and as familiar was the thoughts we construct to link yesterday, today and tommorow.  Though it is hard at times to distinguish service club from philosophical brotherhood, Freemasonry is regaining a foothold in our culture to the astonishment of about everyone.  Ignoring the clamour to declare itself a business, to competitively market it's wares, to espouse philanthropic intent, introductory students of the craft stopped asking questions to become anxious that the world is walking by, leaving us behind, dismissing the more adventurous among us who, undaunted are using the internet to discover for themselves if there actually is  deeper meaning to a material life.  We are learning that good enough isn't a standard for sustainabilty. Knowing it money isn't morality, moralizing isn't ethics, sorting every knock to determine first if a man has the ability, these aspects are changing what what freemasonry has been lacking when good enough isn't enough.  Authority and instruction is not replacement for reasoning, during moments of contemplation, quitetude advancing the highest values of mankind. Now compare in your mind, the feel of this lodge and ask youself what it takes to make it happen? Curious?
