How we think about Masonry depends on the viewing lense at the moment. If we think about it, considering the many philanthropic acts is a proof, not to mention the hundreds of smaller acts of generosity that flow continuously that there is a bond of friendship, only made complicated by the distractions of daily turmoil. Even as fatigue fades we are drawn again to our unusual commitments. We work andwork pleasantly, anticipating our fellows to the best of our ability. Doesn't the imagination run wild with thoughts of the potential; mind palaces, art work; monumental temples; scholarship. Those darned freemasons- fearless in their pursuits, doing where others only dream even as they chafe against the practical pace of nature; Yin-Yang- the achievement of balanced elements. Savouring each honest moment is enlightening. We are defined by so more than our human failings. Blindspots? We have more than a few. Audacious? We grow intellectually and spiritually through time, always meeting with the disapproval of ideologues. In Masonic terms, obedience is the servant of inspiration just as truth is the servant of a questionning intellect. This offers a hope of understanding, of enlightenment, knowing that day is coming when we will question the purpose of existence; have I fullfilled my destiny in life? Has my life been meaningful? Am I loved? Have I loved? When social rank dissolves. When conscience prevails. Who among us knew conscience is the harbinger of natural law? Once not so long ago, organized religion tried to think and reason for mankind. It failed, leaving a few with a longing to return to simpler days, and the many wrestling with new liberal choices. Why is authority so much easier than reason; we don't know. Inspiration is our grail. True masonry is a choice and expression of understanding .
