THE COLOURS OF THE NEXT MASONIC MILLENNIUM

The earliest settlers included people escaping hunger, poverty and religious persecution, including zealots searching to avoid restraint. But one thing is certain- Canada would not exist if it weren't for immigrants of all stripes.

1876. We were such a young nation starting to reshape the land into towns. Today many of those communities are transition as migration from country to city spreads families across Canada searching for opportunity. Today, migration helps an aging population, enabling the country to continue enjoying stable economics and protections.

So, membership in the craft is shrinking. Is it time for the Craft to be as cosmopolitan as our country; to embrace the men, young and old, who are coming to Canada ready to make sacrifices, aspiring to a better life.  They are the type of good men yearning to make a cultural connection, exactly what our Order needs- a new community of men with a desire for fraternity.

 Brilliant, educated minds are drawn to a Canadian lifestyle. It is a stream turning into a torrent that will take freemasonry to the next level. Our neighbourhoods and workplaces are more cosmopolitan. Our children are able to cross cultural boundaries without second thought. 

As a white man  it was startling to live in places where white was a minority. It was an isolating experience, one that freemasonry can resolve if the Craft happends to be in the consciousness of newer Canadians.

Is multiculturalism the catalyst needed by 21st century freemasonry?
