Brethren

Today I have a suggestion that might reveal something freemasons have in common.

I suggest the experience of enlightenment is revealed through a process of answering certain questions- putting a key into the lock, turning and pulling open the door, walking in and attending to what one observes.

Critical thought- meaning to weigh what we know, what we understand, what we observe, what we notice in the attitudes of others.  The unvarnished truth is free of ego. eg not if one is accurate but how much tolerance for inaccuratey.

There are other keys, to other locks. But today we think the constant bombardment of opinion from self serving sources is daunting.  We want to believe this has replaced reading and conversation and done so to our detriment.  If we are lulled into compliance, intoxicated by celebrity it could be our undoing. Except we also have access to brilliant discourse, if we choose to look.   Our focus is on critical thinking, applied to the arcane and contemporary within the philosophical elements humanist, liberities of speculative freemasonry.

Collectively I believe we could do more to enhance the atmosphere of freemasonry but that would a collective confidence that we trust Grand Lodge to provide effective governance and regain our historic foundation.   Criticizing an apprentice is the effort of a weak Master. Giving credit when it is not earned is negligence based on mistrust. Instilling a sense of confidence in the new boy is a key, to help him find his potential, developing his talent.  And that requires authenticity, sincerity and judgement.

Freemasonry is a calling. Look for the mason in the man- he is there whether you see him or not.

We need to talk. I need your advice.
