Welcome Brethren, Welcome Guests,

Masonic Home Companion- with a growing, loyal bunch of listeners that have kept us growing from December 2010 until this moment.

If a person went through the shows archives, they might notice I've never explained what it is we call Freemasonry. I'd like to correct that oversight right now. Answering this question is like trying to tell a visitor to earth what we call love.  I'm not that clever, so be kind when you digest it. Not a soliloquy but a least sincerely written...

In a sentence, freemasonry is opportunity.  I find it pithy to refer to the oft repeated Hallmark Card version;  "Freemasonry makes good men better" . I can't help explain that because I have no idea what it means.

It requires an initiatory ceremony to become a member. Beyond that, it poises choices. The secret so often sought out by the public is allusion to an impression held by each individual.  I can tell you, but only approximate the occurance. If you want an opinion, my initiation was curious and old world. Did I reveal too much?  Sorry about that...

Freemasonry can introduce a person to a way to deeper understanding, if the mind has capability and inclination.  For many, entrance to the Order is sufficient. Of course this stratifies the membership as some, pursue deeper meaning while others do not.  Just as some people crave practical knowledge, others crave concepts.   Think of this by answering my question;  if you want to construct a cathedral, can the stone mason in the quarry do it without the architects, can the architects work without the engineers and the engineers without the artificers?   We create magnificent structures by blending skillsets and competencies.  Freemasonry has the depth to provide for the range not the specific.

Admittedly, it was conceived of genius...
