“Jesus Overpowers Legion”

Mark 5:1-13, 18-20

It’s quite likely that we all have experienced some great victory or joyful situation that we could not keep to ourselves. We just had to share it with someone immediately. It was not something that could wait because the excitement was too great. In our lesson this week, we see the power of meeting Jesus and then recognizing who He is in the experience of the demonpossessed man. His life was one of chaos until he met Jesus. When the man recognized Him, peace was restored to his life. It should be noted that in Matthew’s account of this same incident, he said that there were two men possessed with demons (see Matthew 8:28-29), but Mark and Luke speak of only one. There is no dispute here. Although Matthew speaks of two men, the demons only spoke through one of them. Jesus and His disciples made their way across the Sea of Galilee to the eastern side (see Mark 4:35-41). However, their trip was not without incident.
