Since January 29, Canadian truckers in a "Freedom Convoy" have protested in Canada's capital, Ottawa, against COVID-19 restrictions. The particular trigger for the protests was a government mandate that unvaccinated Canadian truck drivers crossing the United States border into Canada quarantine for two weeks. As similar trucker protests have broken out throughout Canada, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has invoked for the first time Canada's Emergencies Act, passed in 1988. Among other measures, this law allows the government to target various financial resources of protesting truckers. Leading Canadian political commentator Christine Douglas-Williams will join show host Andrew E. Harrod to discuss the protests and their larger meaning for Canada and the world.
