There is plenty going on in the world of Sports. College football teams are naming starters at QB, as well as other key positions. Players will start entering the Transfer Portal with an eye toward getting to a new school ASAP. Injuries--some which will result in players missing the season--are already starting to trickle into the news. Rankings are out, conference, bowl game and playoff predictions are being made. And yes, tailgaters are restocking and reviewing their gameday provisions!

In Politics? Good Lord, what a weekend and start to the week. "Cluster-f**k" doesn't begin to cover it. And while people are screaming on both sides of the aisle, and Afghanis are desperate to get out or merely survive, there are still Americans there who are extremely vulnerable. So what's happening, what's the strategy, what's the prognosis and/or what does the future look like, whether it be for the citizens, the region, or even the U.S. or world? Well, we will hear from someone very knowledgeable in the area of national security.

My long-time friend, John, works in national security--I won't specify because of certain concerns--with a focus on the Middle East and Central Asia. John will give us a mini-history of Afghanistan, from British and Russian attempts to subdue the area, to the Soviet invasion and the resistance by the Mujahadeen (with U.S. and other outside help), to the Northern Alliance and the Taliban, to the present day. As he has pointed out to me, "Taliban" and "Al Qaeda" are not synonymous, and there is speculation that the Taliban, though very restrictive and Sharia-based, will not allow Al Qaeda to summarily take over as militaristic and terrorist amr of the region as happened late in the 1990s and early 21st century.
