The Gospel of John (14:6) recounts Jesus saying, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me."  Jesus also says in John 8:32 that "you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  What do such statements mean for individuals who are not baptized Christians?  What is furthermore the relationship between Jesus' truth claims and religious freedom?  Such issues are of particularly importance for the Catholic Church, which has historically proclaimed that it is Jesus' one true church, outside of which there is no salvation (extra Ecclesiam nulla salvus).  Analyzing these important issues is a new book by Crisis Editor-in-Chief Eric SammonsDeadly Indifference:  How the Church Lost Her Mission, and How We Can Reclaim It.  A Methodist convert to the Catholic Church, Sammons examines how various concepts of religious pluralism have weakened the Catholic Church's influence, piety, and missionary zeal since the Vatican II council in the 1960s.  Sammons will discuss with show host Andrew E. Harrod the ramifications of these theological doctrines for Catholics, non-Catholic Christians, and other groups like Muslims in the wider world.
