THE TEN LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL, page 132, chapter 13 of The Gathering of Israel by Ogden Kraut.

And it came to pass that there arose a mist of darkness; yea, even an exceeding great mist of darkness, insomuch that they who had commenced in the path did lose their way, that they wandered off and were lost. (I Nephi 8:23)

Attempting to locate the ten lost tribes of Israel has become one of the most controversial ecclesiastical mysteries of the latter days. It is astounding that there are so many varied and seemingly authoritative stories pertaining to their whereabouts. It would be easier to avoid the issue and just neglect the subject altogether. However, the gathering of Israel includes the gathering of the ten tribes; therefore, it is necessary to briefly review these various theories concerning the location and the eventual gathering of these tribes.

This chapter will include the following theories of the possible locations for the ten lost tribes of Israel:

  1. Interior of the earth
  2. On a star near the North Star
  3. On another planet
  4. On the wings of the earth
  5. At the North Pole
  6. Scattered among the nations

Before dealing with this area, however, it is necessary to first briefly review their history up to the time of their captivity.
