DESTRUCTIONS AND DESOLATION, Pages 58-68 of Chapter 6 of The Gathering of Israel by Ogden Kraut

But as it was in the days of Noah, so it shall be also at the coming of the Son of Man. (Matt. 24:44, Insp. Vers.)

Down through the history of the world prophecies have warned the nations of the destructions which would occur in the last days. One of the foremost reasons for Saints to gather is to avoid the impending destructions upon these nations. God calls the righteous out of the nations of Babylon to protect them from the catastrophes which shall be poured out “without measure” upon those disobedient nations.

This land is blessed above all other lands: it was foreordained to be the gathering-place of the Saints, where the Lord would hide up his people until his indignation should pass over the nations of the earth. (Heber C. Kimball, J.D. 9:52)

The Prophet Joseph Smith added his testimony to that of all the other prophets:

In addition to all temporal blessings, there is no other way for the Saints to be saved in these last days, (than by the gathering), as the concurrent testimony of all the holy prophets clearly proves, for it is written–“They shall come from the east, and be gathered from the west; the north shall give up, and the south shall keep not back.” “The sons of God shall be gathered from far, and his daughters from the ends of the earth.”
