First Hour of the Show is Case of the Monday's with Lynette (Myself) & Anu Vaidya. Next, I will be interviewing Claudia Dallinger an amazing mother I had the pleasure of meeting in Atlanta a couple weeks back for ACIP at the CDC. This warrior mother and I became fast friends and I appreciate the opportunity to interview her and have her tell her story. My name is Claudia Dallinger, and I am a mother of a 25-year-old vaccine injured beautiful young woman. 23 Years ago on October 4, 1995, while I was juggling work, apprenticeship, school, and being a newly single mother of an (up until then) healthy 20-month-old baby girl, our lives changed forever. My daughter was hospitalized with a hyperglycemic blood glucose count of 617 mg/dl, and diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus Type I. What followed, I am sure most parents can relate to. Questions of the how did this happen, what caused it, could it have been prevented, and is it reversible? All answers to these questions, except the last one “is it reversible” which came back with a final “NO," were quite vague and unsatisfying. After that the questions morphed to, what are we going to do now, how do we manage this diagnosis of doom and incorporate it into our daily lives, how do I preserve a happy fulfilled childhood and life for my daughter? One day at a time! The road of our 23-year journey was by no means easy. Filled with seizures, constant ER/ICU/Doctor visits, monitoring blood glucose counts, managing insulin- and food intake, emotional devastation at times, and dealing with ignorant insensitive and sometimes incompetent practitioners. But after all these years, after all, that we have experienced, we are still forging forward with determination and a constant hunger for answers.
