APRIL IS JAZZ APPRECIATION MONTH! Joining host Janine Coveney on this week's Words On Flicks podcast is special guest Michelle Taylor to talk about portrayals of jazz musicians and the incorporation of jazz music in film. Included, films by directors Spike Lee and Clint Eastwood; scores by Quincy Jones and Terence Blanchard; jazz documentaries; and movies from Round Midnight to Bird, Lady Sings the Blues to Mo' Betta Blues. Michelle is absolutely the right person for this discussion: In 1996, Michelle started her own company, NIA Entertainment, Ltd. (name changed in 2016 to Passion Music Group, LLC). As Founder and Managing Director, she oversees entertainment marketing, event production and project and artist management for her clients. Her list of current and former corporate clients includes: Institute of Jazz Studies, Rutgers University, Newark, You Global Entertainment, The Lehman Center for the Performing Arts and Motema Music. Her artist management roster has included: violinist Regina Carter, pianist Tommy Flanagan, vocalist Carmen Lundy, drummer Lewis Nash, saxophonist Antonio Hart, guitarist Rodney Jones and vocalist Letizia Gambi. Currently, Michelle is working with pianist/organist Matthew Whitaker and vocalists Laurin Talese and Vanessa Rubin.
