Thomas grew up in Seattle Washington but also lived in California (Compton, Watts and South Central).?While growing up he witnessed many levels of poor decision-making including Substance Abuse, Drug Dealing, Prostitution, Stealing and Robbing. Through his family members ’ influential actions, Thomas developed a knack for the same types of behaviors and took a similar path of self-destruction.?In 1991, Thomas (aka BG Smoov) found his way into the Gangster Rap Genre with “Death Row Records”. Due to another run-in with the law, his time spent with Death Row Records was short-lived. Thomas then moved back to Seattle Washington. Upon returning to Seattle, he reconnected with Todd Brown from “Everlasting Funk Productions” and Casey Greenly (aka K-Daddy).

Thomas (BG Smoov) and Casey (K-Daddy) released a Maxi Single called "Let It Ride" in 1994. Thomas and Casey sold “Let It Ride” CDs from the trunk of their car all over the country. After releasing this single they were the opening act for the well-known group, “Bone Thugs and Harmony” in Hazlehurst Mississippi. They also performed at an album release after party tour the acclaimed rapper “DMX” in Seattle Washington. In 1993, Thomas worked with Ed Dumas and Twinn G. of “Wet City Records” where he recorded the single "In Seattle". This single was never released due to Thomas’s active drug addiction and prison incarceration.Thomas was in and out of prison and served 4 different prison sentences.  This was when he wrote all his music.  This music consisted of his hurts, pains, love for his family, and the deep-seated love he had for God. While in prison, he studied God's word and developed a relationship with the Lord.
