2. I will give peace in their families and will unite families that are divided. This promise is a very important one for most families in our day and time. In fact, Jesus made this interesting statement regarding families:

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. For I have come to set a man ‘against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s enemies will be those of his household." (Matthew 10:34-36)

Most families today can identify with what Jesus told His Apostles, but that is not what He calls for. Jesus wants unity not only for the family, but for the whole Church. At the Last Supper Jesus said this, “I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. (John 17:20-24)
