Charlotte View live interview with Daune Gardner, Mayor of Waxhaw, NC. With almost 18% of the voters of Waxhaw participating, she was reelected for Mayor in Nov. 2011.

Waxhaw is one of the fastest growing communities in Union County and in the entire state of North Carolina. As the 3rd oldest town in Union County, Waxhaw takes its name from the Waxhaws, the Indian tribe that once inhabited the area.

Women who seek political office in the US have faced and continue to face an uphill battle. Nevertheless, those who have made it have become very visible, vocal and influential. One of these women is Mayor Daune Gardner, who recently was listed in the top 20 small town mayors because she has improved the town with more jobs, better infrastructure and/or a positive interactive government.

When asked about her role in government, she said: “I am both proud and honored to serve as the Mayor of Waxhaw at such an important time for our community. As we look to the future we see that Waxhaw has much to offer. We have a responsibility to preserve and promote our unique culture and wisely build upon the opportunities that will create the greatest long term benefit for our community.  Sustainability and intelligence in planning and design must be our guiding principles as we plan for the growth that continues to come to us as a result of Charlotte’s success”.

The Town of Waxhaw is a friendly and caring community where neighbors support each other and families can grow and prosper.
