Episode 204: A God without Strings--Nicene Creed and Early Christology

For nearly seventeen centuries, the "official" position of Christianity has been to say that Jesus Christ is both fully divine and fully human--but how did that get decided, and why does it matter?  In today's conversation, Pastors Sarah, Erica, and Steve explore some of the story behind what is now usually called the Nicene Creed (or, to be a bit fancier, the Nicene-Constantinapolitan Creed, if it includes the article about the Holy Spirit), how it came to be, what the different positions were going in, and why any of it makes a difference for our lives now.  In a time when we can be so easily divided over all kinds of issues, it can be helpful to remember that in the early centuries of Christian history, there were fierce fights over very precise matters of wording, thinking, teaching, and beleiving--sometimes down to just one letter's difference!  So in this episode, alongside stories of the original Santa punching out a heretic to the classic Meat Loaf song, "I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)," join us for some thought-provoking conversation, a bit of history and theology, and questions about how we face the challenges of our lives every day, too.  Check it out!
