John connects the Incarnate Word (became flesh) as to God coming to and living (dwelt) with Israel in the tent of the Tabernacle.
The word dwelt in the Gr means to tent or encamp. It suggests (figuratively) to reside as God did in the Old Testament, as a symbol of protection and communion. See Ex 25:8
3 Commands for the Tabernacle
The word sanctuary in Heb means a consecrated place. God commanded that a special dwelling be erected for Him where his presence could be manifest daily and from which he would commune daily through Moses and the high priest for generations to come. The word dwell (shakan) in Heb means to settle down, abide, reside, tabernacle (See Hebrews 8:1)
