Our study continues to discuss the concept of seeing God with our eyes.

John the Evangelist gives his personal proof of why he identifies Jesus as the only begotten son of God.

  1. He writes about the humanity of Jesus (made flesh; not spirit); man and not God.  The connection of "son-ship" is in reference to His humanity (not His divinity/deity). (See Luke 1:35; Acts 13:33)
  2. He writes about "beholding" His glory. (See Matthew 17:1-8)

Behold

Gr theaomai means to learn from looking; to see; with the eyes; to perceive  (See Matthew 17:2).

Glory

Heb kabowd means splendor; dignity; abundance

Gr doxa translates magnificence; splendor; excellence (See 2 Peter 1:16-17).

The only begotten

Gr monogenes translate only of its kind (See John 3:16; 1 John 4:9)
