Burlington, VT – As an executive leadership coach deeply rooted in psychotherapy, organizational consulting and team building, Carol Bennett has always focused on personal development. Now she says that personal development – self-awareness – is not enough.

Today’s leaders are accountable to a much broader field of stakeholders, including their communities and society at large. In order to respond effectively, leaders need to have an acute awareness of the conflicting forces and the critical issues radically changing the world right now. Businesses are now inextricably linked to the social, environmental and economic crises we face.

Specifically, leaders are also dealing with employees with significantly heightened anxiety regarding all aspects of their lives. High anxiety does not bring out our best functioning. Crises exaggerate and accelerate the most positive and negative aspects of an organization.

“Leaders need to take a stand and they need to and embody integrity and high moral character,” says Bennett. “What does it mean to do the right thing? We’re playing the long game here. The era of the warlords is over. It’s not just about the money anymore.”

Bennett believes that it is the tech companies where we need the most extraordinary leadership right now. As the primary influencers in our culture in our world, they face tremendous challenges, tremendous opportunity and tremendous temptation.
