Hudson, WI – Most of us are familiar with the daily horoscopes you might find next to the crossword puzzle in the newspaper. These horoscopes are based on the signs of the zodiac.

But there’s another type of astrology: Vedic Astrology. Based on the ancient Indian spiritual texts known as the Vedhas, Vedic Astrology, or “Jyotish,” (Sanskrit for “the eye of God” or “the light of spirit”) was first discovered thousands of years ago. When practiced properly, Vedic Astrology can offer profound spiritual value.

Laurie Friese is a Vedic astrologer.

“I’m not a fortune teller,” explains Friese. “The only thing I can tell you is what I know from looking at the heavens at the moment of your birth. People tend to lump it with crystal balls and psychics dressed up in gowns and rings. But really what I am is a scientist. That’s what astrology really is, it’s math and science used to extrapolate information about you.”

According to Friese, though we live by freewill, we tend to repeat behaviors because they feel comfortable to us. That goes for this life and our past lives. Friese’s Vedic readings start from the perspective that you are a mature soul that has lived thousands of lives.

“Your birth chart is literally a picture of your past before you were born,” says Friese. “Every thought, desire, action, skill and talent is encoded in your horoscope. Your behavior in the past is a predictor of the future. All I do is extrapolate what I see in the chart to what might happen in the future based on your own inclinations and personalities."
