South Acworth, NH No matter how old we are or what our station in life, we’re all here to learn and discover as much as we can about the world and how we fit into it.

A learner is defined as anyone who explores their environment to gain knowledge. And as we’ve all learned, learning is not exclusive to the classroom. That’s why educators, students, parents and communities all over the world are demanding a new vision for how we educate children. To meet the challenges of globalization, we need a new educational paradigm that encourages opportunities for children to engage the learning process on their own terms through their natural curiosity.

Tracy Hanson is the founder of Next Generation Global Education. Next Generation Global Education seeks to establish global educational reform by promoting the understanding, adoption and implementation of a Learner-Centered Model.

Developed by Hanson, an educator for 40 years, “The Matrix of a Learner” is a new model of education that values the student over pre-determined expectations.

“What I believe learning and education should look like and what it actually looks like are not the same and the gap is growing every day,” says Hanson. “Each child builds their learning pathway according to the things that excite their imagination and stimulate their curiosity."

Research shows that children are born with an innate desire to learn. When they enter the traditional educational system, however, we tell them what to learn, when, and how to learn it. With the proper use of technology, open educational resources and collaborative learning opportunities, systemic change is not only possible, it’s essential.
