Close-Up Talk Radio spotlights Dr. Tina of MCG Consulting Group

Suwanee, GA – Enduring a life of frustration is common among people in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (or STEM) community. STEM professionals are routinely passed over for leadership positions. And while it’s true that it’s more expedient to keep these individuals in their current roles because they are fixers of problems, the real reason is much simpler.

“As technicians we’re really good pushing through impossible barriers,” says Dr. Martina Carroll-Garrison, “but everybody thinks we’re jerks!”

Dr. Tina is the founder of MCG Consulting Group, an executive leadership coaching practice with a particular focus on the STEM community. Through her unique program Geek Coach 101, Dr. Tina works with individuals in STEM to enhance their leadership capacity while creating balance in their professional and personal lives.

“Self-reflection is the first step toward self-awareness,” says Dr. Tina. “I help the STEM community get out of their head and into their heart.”

An engineer for the Department of the Army and the FBI for 25 years, Dr. Tina’s career had progressed quite well until she hit that familiar brick wall. She made an investment into self-awareness training and the insight gave her a new appreciation for the specific challenges engineers and scientists experience in the work place. Today, Dr. Tina helps her clients identify tangible and executable pathways to joy and forward progress.

“When you become self-aware, you understand what’s blocking your progress,” says Dr. Tina. “I was a great engineer but it didn’t fill my soul. I walked away from something I was very good at to do something I’m passionate about, so I fall in love with all my clients and their willingness to grow and evolve.”
