Growing up in Washington, D.C., Marquita discovered her love for singing at an early age. By her teens, she had won several local singing competitions, which then led her to earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the New England Conservatory and a Master’s degree in Music from Oklahoma City University.
Marquita went on to join the Houston Opera Studio where, after performing for two years, she landed an agent. Passion, determination, and an unparalleled dramatic range enabled Marquita to land coveted roles in countless major productions, including Aida, Macbeth, La Boheme and Porgy and Bess.
Along with the opportunity to tour the world, dazzle immense crowds, and do what she loves most, Marquita has performed with Emmy®-nominated productions and earned an impressive list of awards, such as “Artist of the Year Award” from the Pittsburgh Opera and the New York City Opera’s “Diva Award.
Of all that Marquita has accomplished throughout her illustrious career, her most cherished honor is to have received the National Rehabilitation Hospital’s “Victory Award.” A bittersweet moment for Marquita, she reflects on all that she has been through since being diagnosed in 2006 with a serious, life-threatening disease.
