Part 2: Ursula Knaeusel of Ursula's Cooking School

The life and career of Ursula Knaeusel has been extraordinary to say the least. Having spent her formative years in the once Communist East Germany, Ursula successfully fled the country in 1952. Traveling between the United States, Europe, and Central America Ursula finally ended up relocating in the U.S. with a strong passion and knowledge for the culinary arts.

Ursula attributes her love for cooking to her childhood time spent with her grandmother. In 1971, Ursula utilized her worldly expertise as a teacher and cook to create Ursula’s Cooking School, Inc in Atlanta, Georgia. The initial class consisted of only five students. However, it quickly expanded to become the largest independent private cooking school in the United States.

“I came to this country with twenty-five dollars to my name. My grandparents instilled very strong values upon me. With my values and passion for cooking, I wanted to create this school to share what I love with people. It’s amazing how you can make something out of yourself if you want it,” exclaims Ursula.

Ursula is in her 37^th year of business with Ursula’s Cooking School and she proudly has not repeated one single recipe in the school’s history. Incredibly, the average roster of students Ursula teaches is over 500 students per quarter.

Ursula’s enthusiasm is contagious to all of her pupils as she emphatically shares her love with everyone she instructs her students. Along with the success of the school, Ursula had a television series feature on PBS with “Cooking With Ursula.
