Close-Up Talk Radio Spotlights Indiana State Teachers Assoc.

The topic of school reform has become quite controversial over the years. Everyone from school administrators, teachers, parents, to students deserve the best. The goal should be clear: to educate and create a well-informed and ambitious future generation. But who is looking out for the best of both teachers and students?

For more than 150 years, the Indiana State Teachers Association “has adhered to its original premise that equal educational opportunity for the fullest individual development is the inherent right of every American and, further, that public education is basic to our democracy and to the perpetuation of our American way of life.”

Dr. Brenda Pike joined ISTA in 2010 after 31 years of experience in education. After receiving her master’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee, Brenda taught in small rural areas and volunteered in local teacher unions. “Teachers worked together to advocate improved working conditions and respectable salaries.” says Pike.

Pike received her doctorate from Memphis State University and from there, dove deeper into enhancing the education system. She managed education programs in both Texas and Tennessee before being recruited by the ISTA.

“School reform has made an impact on adults more than children,” says Pike. ISTA has diligently worked to direct the impact of school reform on the youth through collective action aimed to benefit the education of the students equally. ISTA offers scholarships, grants, and awards to assist everyone with achieving their dreams.
